For the final part of the tournament, the four seeds chose their opponent, and third seed Fusion chose the poker player as their first opponent in their bracket. Their strategy for Washington is definitely not the right one against a team like Fusion, and it shows. Of course the poker players were in a heavy battle right away, but the only player who really made his mark on this match was Carpe. He’s an expert when it comes to being a Tracer, and his work really shows how very little he can be stopped.
BigGoose and Mirror’s Round 1 was opportunistic scoring some decisive ring-outs. BigGoose started the day strong by crashing into Fusion players after Fusion players were off the map. Birdring on Reaper, but using Death Blossom to regain momentum. Round 2 is all Fusion because they’ve got answers for every LA strategy comes up with. Being able to select OGE and Mirror early gives them a quick drawback to any team fight. While Mirror and Birdring were showing signs of promise, they could now settle this fight. The Reaper and Doomfist combination does guarantee high damage, but tradeoffs in more important areas like survival and function. The Fusion got Ivy to play May to their advantage where he could form Ice Walls and freeze poker players, which neither Doomfist nor Reaper could. The Fusion gets the 2nd round and scores 1-0.
Fusion replaces three players for this map. Glads are starting to survive. They lost the first-team fight but quickly returned to the point before Fusion could fully take it. While the Glads were still falling, they were able to hold out for a while, until time expired as fact. Shaz keeps the cards alive. Points B and C are easier for Fusion, although Glads are still resilient. Fusion makes it expire with expiration time.
On offense, the poker player is able to pick up A points faster than Fusion. This is mostly due to the performance of Mirror as Echo. EQO and Sado are easy targets for the Glads to find, and while it seems bleak at times for LA, Philly makes a few mistakes that prevent them from taking advantage of it. The poker players were able to take on Sado as Winston before he could use his Primal Rage, which helped get them to Point C in more time.
